There's not much detail: It's possible Nintendo will be setting up some hotspot partnership or infrastructure here; it's possible that you'll be able to set up a Wi-Fi gateway that any nearby Nintendo player can access. But it might just be a Wi-Fi plug-in to access the LAN and the Internet for other players.
Seems Buffalo is involved in the DS move. They are creating the USB adapter which creates a soft AP for the home, as well as the AOSS AP used at "Nintendo Wi-Fi Stations", to be unveiled first at 1,000 video game stores in Japan.
yea wifi is announced and gonna be awesome, and i read on ign.com that mcdonalds is gonna be one of the hotspots. This will, in theory, bring more business to McD, because players who dont have a wireless router can just go over to their local McD. and play, and while theyre there, they will want something to eat or drink. Smart move for nintendo.
Wi-Fi is set to come out on November 12th (I think). Nintendo is selling USB adaptors that might be bundled in with Mario Kart DS which will allow you to plug in the adaptor in the usb port and have the wireless wifi capibility without a wireless router. For more info, see http://nintendowifi.com
Personally, that Mickey D's idea is bad to me. I want to be able to stay home, plug in a USB cord and play with other peeps around the world. Why the heck would I wanna have to go somewhere to play?
uuuuhhh, first of all, whoever said that u need 2 go 2 mickey d's 4 the wi-fi, there wrong, u dont hav 2 go 2 mickey d's 2 use it. if u have wireless internet at ur house, u can just connect throught there. or u can purchase a wi-fi adaptor thingy.
