Israel loosens 2.4 GHz usage rules, allowing existing telecom firms to deploy Wi-Fi: These new rules don't allow just anyone to offer commercial Wi-Fi, but they do make it easier for existing companies to do so. Interestingly, ISPs can offer Wi-Fi directly to their customers, but apparently not to the general public.
Do you or anyone else have more information on this?
I work in the Wi-Fi regulatory field and the latest information we received from the Israeli authorities stated that they weren't opening the 2.4 GHz band until 2005 or the 5GHz band until 2006.
At the beggining, Israel Ministry of Defence wanted to retain the prohibition until 2005.
However, a month ago, a decision was made that allows the use of the technology, with less (if any) regulation.
I´ll send you (or any other that shows interest) an article about this by email.
Hi Sami,
Please do send it to me by email.
Cheers.
