Alec Saunders writes that the Trudeau airport in Montréal has locked down its juice: The electrical outlets are apparently capped to prevent usage. He found a phone booth designed for dial-up modem users that has an exposed plug. Hydro Québec raising its rates?
It's not just Montreal Glenn! I defy anyone to find an open outlet anywhere in Chicago either.
[Editor's note: Bizarre! I have found outlets in San Francisco and Las Vegas recently, although it was a bit of an effort. 80 watts per laptop (roughly) by 1,000 laptops a day times times 10 hours = 800,000 kWh/day? But they don't all pull 80 watts the whole time.--gf]
I was in Montreal Airport last night. I was using Wi-Fi with the very convenient power outlets that were provided in small towers in the seating areas at the gate (60 in my case).
It seems to be really variable Ian. Where I was yesterday (gate 82) there was some power on the oppositve side of the concourse from the gate, but none where any of the seats were.
I am looking at putting up a Wiki to start to categorize these, by gate.
